Memory Pairs
Cut-out cards in pairs: two pictures, picture and word, A and a, a number and its dots or word, or two rhyming pictures.
A sheet of cards to cut out and play pairs with. Choose what makes a pair and the game changes with it: two of the same picture is pure memory, a picture and its word is early reading, capital-to-lower-case sorts out the letters children muddle, a numeral against a group of dots or its number word builds the link between the symbol and the amount, and two pictures that rhyme is a listening game. Words, letters and rhymes are in the book's language. Print on card if you have it; if you only have paper, switch the backs on and every card folds in half so nothing shows through.
