Missing Letters
A picture and a word with letters knocked out: first, last, the vowels, a syllable, or the letters you choose (r or rr?).
Each card shows a picture and its word with some letters missing. Choosing which letters disappear changes what the page practises: the first letter is initial-sound work for the youngest, the last letter is ending sounds, the vowels make the standard phonics exercise, and random letters make a spelling test. A syllable leaves a whole syllable out (sa__to), from a family you name if you like. Chosen letters leaves out only the spelling you name -- lh, ç, rr -- or makes a choice of it: r or rr, s or ss, m or n before p and b, g or j, c or ç, x or ch; those gaps are boxes of one size, so the gap never gives the answer away. Only words with the chosen letters are used, topped up from the picture library, and words keep their accents. A letter bank across the top lists everything that was taken out, so a child who is stuck has somewhere to start.
