Number Pyramid
A wall of bricks where each one is the two below it added together.
Every brick in the wall is the sum of the two bricks it sits on. Give the bottom row and the child adds their way to the top; give the top brick and one sloping edge instead and the same wall has to be taken apart with subtraction, which is much harder and much more useful. The scattered setting drops clues all over the wall so the child has to hunt for the brick they can work out next. Whichever clues are used they are checked by filling in every brick that follows from the ones already known, so no page here needs guessing or algebra.
