Secret Code
A decoder at the top, a coded message underneath, and a joke at the end of it.
Every letter in the message has been swapped for a number, a shape or a little picture, and the key that undoes it is printed at the top of the page. The child looks each symbol up and writes the letter on the blank underneath. Choose one of the jokes and encouraging notes, or type your own message — anything up to a few lines will lay itself out. Words are never broken across a line, so the shape of a word is a clue in itself, and you can have the first few letters filled in as a running start. Good handwriting practice that does not feel like handwriting practice.
