Sorting Bins

Cut-out pictures at the top, two to four labelled bins at the bottom, one rule to sort by.

A cut-and-sort page. The pictures come out with scissors and go into the bins underneath, which is what makes it a table activity rather than a pencil one: cards can be moved, argued about and moved again before anything is glued down. The rule is the setting. Sort by what kind of thing it is, by the letter the word starts with, by how many times you clap the word, by whether it is bigger or smaller than the child, by whether it is alive, by season, by where an animal lives, healthy food against treats, by colour, or flat shapes by their shape. Letters and claps follow the picture's name in the book's language, and the word is printed under each picture for those two rules, so a child is never guessing which name you had in mind. Name the bins yourself (p b, 2 3 4, winter summer, red yellow blue) or let the page choose.
