Count in twos, fives or tens along a number line, a trail of stones or a caterpillar.
Counting in steps, with the missing numbers to fill in. The number line shows the hops so the size of the step is visible; the stepping stones and the caterpillar hide the arithmetic inside something a child wants to finish; the hundred square asks them to colour every number they land on, which turns counting in fives into a pattern they can see. Set any step from one to twelve and any starting number, so the same page covers 'count in twos from zero' in reception and 'count in sevens from thirty-one' in year four.
