Phonics Week
The week's sounds to say and trace, words with sound buttons, tricky words and a picture strip.
One page for a week of synthetic phonics, the way Letters and Sounds, Little Wandle and US phonics programmes teach it. The week's sounds come first, to say and trace, each with a picture that has the sound in its name. Then words to read, with sound buttons under them: a dot under a letter that makes a sound on its own, a dash under two or three letters that make one sound, and a curved link under a split digraph such as a-e in cake. The words are split by the sounds the child knows that week, so sheep is sh-ee-p. The week's tricky words follow, and a strip finishes the page: join words to pictures, write each picture's word one sound to a box, or read a word and draw it. Type the week's sounds, its words and tricky words, or leave the words empty and the page picks pictures the child can already read.
